Opening on June 15, 2017 at 5pm

LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE welcomes artists Paolo Almario and Mathieu Zurstrassen in the cross-residences program of digital art launched by Transcultures (Belgium) and LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE (Québec). This residency will take place between May 15 and June 18 for the Quebec phase and the public is invited to a presentation on June 15 at 5pm. A production phase will take place in Belgium from July 24 to August 18.

Some encounters seem predestined. That’s the case between these two artists who share a practice related to digital arts, architecture and design. The Quebec artist hailing from Columbia, Almario and the Belgium artist Zurstrassen meet around the concept of homoeostasis. Walking the streets and visiting various  exhibitions, they intend to feed their reflection from the movement and  breath of Quebec City. This residency is the first step of the creation processes of a singular common artwork that will come to light in autumn 2017. The duo considers that the quest for meaning must be at the heart of their approach. Focusing on the discourse and taking advantage of the freedom that offers the residency at LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE, the duo intends to produce a model of the installation at once audio and kinetic.

While Mathieu Zurstrassen likes to play on our perceptions of the ephemeral and the duration in time through complex machines and strange devices of gears, cylinders and motors, like so many tools allowing him to embody his artistic ambitions, Paolo Almario works on the production of machines whose purpose is an extension of himself. His work explores the relationships that occur between the individual and the space.
