Québec: Observations on the Familiar and the Exotic

Frederico Câmara creates subtle works that reveal the impact of urbanization in the landscape of a region. He takes his inspiration from the way people perceive their natural environment or the way the immigrants influence a city’s social and cultural environment. During his residency, Câmara will develop an installation based on photographic research at the zoo and aquarium of Québec City. According to him, zoo landscapes metaphorically represent the way human beings relate to themselves and to their environment, establishing territories and divisions that define societies through race, behaviour, culture and religion.
