The project Le poids des objets started two years ago. It articulates around heterogeneous items collected in several places and communities. Over several trips, Raphaëlle de Groot invites people to abandon their cumbersome personal objects: remains of life which lost their meaning or their importance, which we eventually do not see anymore or which we store far from the glance. During her encounters, the artist realized that many people give weight to the objects. Their donation is a form of legacy. In fact, the donors offload their annoyance of the object and give to the artist the responsibility do what she wants with it. What is to be done with this burden? Here is the question which haunts and motivates Raphaëlle de Groot to realize a series of actions about or with the collection of objects, such as to inventory, to sort out, to organize, to weigh, to carry, to move, to walk, to tidy up and to disturb. Through these acts, she tries to test the objects ability to become a sign or to create meaning. After collecting objects in Quebec in 2009 - as well as travelling with some of them - she begins her residency at LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE with the idea to linger over the knots of sense which is part of this trajectory.
