Jonathan Villeneuve |
Le long de la 20 en passant par la 15
Opening on Thursday March 17st, 2011, at 5 pm.
Exceptionally, LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE welcomes in its gallery an exhibition rather than a residency. Indeed, the Montreal artist Jonathan Villeneuve will present to the public two electromechanical artwork that deals with a poetics of movement. In Faire la vague (2009), Jonathan Villeneuve uses construction materials to create a wooden curtain which, in spite of its rigidity, gently waves, as if it was drag by the wind. Sonorous and monumental, this artwork evokes the greatness of an organ while relating to familiar elements, especially in its construction. With Mouvement de masse (2010), the action of the wind is also simulated, but this time with reeds nonchalantly stirring on the same axis. In Jonathan Villeneuve's installations, the custom made mechanism invites the viewer to contemplate its form as much as the reaction it triggers. While being simple in its function and complexes in its functioning, his work consist in a paradox of poetic machines.
