Frédérique Laliberté is interested in the notion of coincidence between distance and closeness in Web art. Usually, the virtual space is a common place inside which the user gets into marked out universes that are emancipated from their creators. Within the framework of her Web production project at LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE, Frédérique Laliberté questions the effects of an inverted interaction. What happens when the creator visits the user by the mean of a Web site which overflows and disguises, becoming a huge playground extending on both sides of the screen? According to instructions being dictated, the surfer experiments, almost as he wishes, a vast audiovisual content filled with excess and with distractions. This content, deliberately disjointed, is in fact only a pretext to the construction and the demolition of visual and sound compositions peculiar to the aesthetics of the artist, which likes the collage, the re-use, the immoderation, the ready-made, the text, the transcription, the assembly and the lo-fi. The user activates a succession of big short-lived events which multiply, overlap and juxtapose, suggesting an stunning deepness into the flat space that is the Web page. In an equivocal scenario of mises en abyme and enactments, he becomes at the same time the occupant and the occupied of the virtual environment of a computer which is not his.
