Cynthia Fecteau |

Research Residency

LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE welcomes with great interest the visual artist Cynthia Fecteau. From May 5 to June 15, for a research residency at the documentation centre, she’ll put on her witers’ hat. Cynthia Fecteau has chosen to write an essay on Jeffrey Poirier’ sculpture approach and on the evolution of the devices he uses for space occupation. Cynthia Fecteau asks herself: " Beyond aesthetic considerations, beyond the desire to present nature, is the artist addressing a more political comment? " While writing the essay Cynthia perceives the sensitivity of a social and political dimension implied by the choices of the material and the form of the artworks. As for Poirier, he politicises and gives new complexity to his intents; he reinvents his vision of nature by constructing more elaborate devices. Even before the residency, Poirier prepares new manipulations that will underline the political aspect perceived by Fecteau. The research then starts with Fecteau’s meeting with Poirier when she decides to write about his work. It is that start of a thought process that goes beyond the form. This unusual residency presents like a broad-spectrum reflection on the work of one artist as seen by an another who chooses words as a medium of expression, while exploring all that shines in Poirier’s mind like a subtle wandering in constant mouvement. The results of this reflection will give birth to a digital publication.
