Pavitra Wickramasinghe |

THE PLACE THAT WAS/LA PLACE QUI FUT

Within the framework of the France-Québec exchange program Géographies Variables.
For the past few years, Pavitra Wickramasinghe have been creating small animations rooted in the place she was at the time. The sense of place and locale plays a large part in her work and has always been concerned with various notions of illusion and simulation. The artist works with memories of the places she have lived to create a personal mythology. While in LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE, Pavitra Wickramasinghe will create an animation to add to the series. For this project, she plans to use vignettes to explore the experience of time and potential for story telling. Each animation, made in a different place, tells a story specific to that place. Together, they create a story and this story is based on the experience of the order and duration of the vignettes. For Pavitra Wickramasinghe, this is analogous to subjective experience, imperfection of memory and how we create our past through our narratives. This project will explore how narratives are made, how continuity is created and broken and find other ways to tell a story.
