Charles-Étienne Brochu |
l@ch@mbrebl@nche prize
From November 10 to December 21
Presentation on May 21 at 5pm
l@ch@mbrebl@nche (2014) was awarded to Charles-Étienne Brochu. The young artist is thus starting a six-week production residency, aiming to recontextualize his work by exploring the center’s new digital laboratory.
For an artist, a production residency is also about experimentation and learning. Charles-Étienne Brochu will have access to the bran new laboratory in LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE . He will also be able to partake in the classes offered. This opportunity will allow him to get more familiar with the complete possibilities of the laboratory and its technicians
Brochu’s artistic practice has thus far concentrated on digital design and illustration allowing a few forays in the use of the web in his art works. The l@ch@mbrebl@nche prize was first conceived for a web-art residency or network art. Charles-Étienne Brochu’s application portfolio and his interest in drawing touched the jury, they perceived his potential to help break down some boundaries by using some concepts not specific to digital art, and using the new laboratory as a way to research and experimentation.
Therefore, Charles-Étienne dives in head first in this residency, in which the path will be as interesting for the artist a will be the final artwork.
Charles-Étienne Brochu holds a BA in visual and media arts from Université Laval (2014). He has had a a few solo exhibitions (Divan Orange in Montréal (2014), Université Laval’s gallery (2013). He has collaborated in many collective exhibits. He lives and works in Quebec City.
