Exclusions, fétiches et euphémismes : politique du vocabulaire de l’art actuel.

Research residency in the documentation centre of LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE
Edith Brunette is interested in the ambivalence of the artistic circle facing politics and the way to approach it. Her researches for the past two years allowed her to notice a certain nervousness of the actors’ community to embrace a politically active role, in spite of their persisting desire in giving themself a social role exceeding the aesthetic function. According to her observations, this resistance in politics leads to a love-hate relationship which seems to negotiate towards a vocabulary made of exclusions, fetishes and euphemisms. During her residency in LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE, Edith Brunette will study texts stemming from art publications to analyze the vocabulary used by the artists, curators and critics when their remarks touch upon reasonings that contain an important part of social criticism - and so of politics. Through this research, she wishes to highlight the political aspect of the discourses on the arts, and the way these indicate the limits of what is accepted or refused in the community - unconscious limits which it is important to identify to understand where we cross the line… and where we obey.
